Nelson University
Previously known as Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU), the institution rebranded as Nelson University to honor its founder, P.C. Nelson, as well as to broaden its appeal to a wider student base. The logo redesign was one component of a larger rebranding initiative, which included a vibrant, boundary-pushing campaign and updated brand guidelines. I served as art director for the logo redesigns, and was the lead designer on the overarching campaign concept, Greater with Faith.
Given the significance of the name change, it was essential to maintain a visual connection to the original SAGU identity. To achieve this, their lion icon was maintained, and anchored with a shield while introducing a more refined, stately type treatment for the academic logo. The athletics logo also features the lion mark. We recommended its continued use to strengthen brand recognition across both academic and athletic platforms.
